HOW TO COLLABORATE WITH OTHER CONTENT CREATORS ON INSTAGRAM?
I'm a content creator who values building community with other creators. It’s all about collaboration over competition because we succeed when we make room for all of us to eat. I create content to inspire other women to be bold and do what makes them happy through fashion, beauty, and lifestyle. However, collaborating with other creators is what makes creating more fun. Creating content can get lonely. Most times this is a one-man job so building friendships with people who are in your network online not only allow you guys to learn and grow together but to support one another throughout the journey.
Recently, I collaborated with @__arielnicole on Instagram a minimalist San Antonio, Texas-based fashion creator. We have been following each other for a few years and been communicating on the app supporting each other content. This year I told myself I wanted to collaborate with more creators and Ariel happen to be one of them. This was my first time collaborating with a content creator who lived in a different state. I live in Atlanta and Ariel lives in San Antonio and we would be shooting the content in two different locations. Once I came up with the collab idea I sent out a pitch email asking her if she was interested in collaborating.
When it comes to working with friends or other creators I like to keep it professional especially when discussing business. This allows them to understand how serious I am about the collaboration. I put together an email that explained the collab idea, content deliverables, location to shoot content, and timeframe. I wanted to treat our collab like a brand collab making sure the email was detailed. This allows us to have a clear understanding of what’s expected of both of us.
I considered the brand aesthetic, the mood of Ariel's Instagram page, and the locations she typically shoots at and compared them against my Instagram and brand aesthetic to make sure everything flowed together. It’s important to collaborate with creators that share similar visions and values.

Once Ariel agreed to collaborate the next step was to shoot the content and send over edits on a google shared drive. Sharing the content on google drive allowed us to see each other content and give feedback on edits if necessary. The first round of us shooting the content we had to make small edits and reshoot just to make the video align. It’s important to work with people who are passionate about creating and don’t mind reshooting or making edits until the vision is accomplished.

Once we agreed on the final edits of the video we used the collab feature on Instagram. This feature allows the post to be featured on both content creator's home feeds. This style of collab allows both content creators to be exposed to each other audience which means tapping into a new audience. Also, this is another way to increase engagement on each creator profile collectively.
